On 24 February students across the UK will take action against their university's ties to the arms trade through the careers service, the investments it holds, and military funding of research. By organising a series of protests on the same day we will be making the voice of students against the arms trade loud and clear. Last year's actions included:
die-in protests (check out http://www.caat.org.uk/campaigns/universities/dayofaction.php) So start preparing for the Day of Action in 5 easy steps (and let us know what you are planning by emailing universities@caat.org.uk)
1. Think about your target (your university's investments in arms companies, its refusal to stop arms companies from recruiting on campus, military-funded research, the sponsorship of engineering programmes by an arms company, its failure to adopt an ethical investment policy...). 2.
Decide what action you
want to take- get creative! Make banners, think of costumes, print
off leaflets. You can download (and upload) campaigns materials from
the student wiki: http://wiki.caat.org.uk.
Email universities@caat.org.uk
to become a contributer. 3. Write a press release or adapt the draft one attached and send it out to local and student media (and CAAT) a week before the action. Let us know what you are doing so we can co-ordinate national press as well! 4. Organise a photographer to record the action! For your action to be linked up with others across the UK it is vital that you have a good photographer on the day who can take stills and send them in to universities@caat.org.uk 5. 24 February: Take action! Send in your stories and photos to us at universities@caat.org.uk; Send an article to your local papers and student paper, upload your stories to indymedia.org.uk and the Universities Against the Arms Trade Facebook Group!
